Sunny 20+ Afternoon

It was an unusually warm weekend for February in Michigan. We had a huge meltdownon Saturday and today were blessed with some sun.

It was the kind of sun that shines through the largest window in your home and inspires you to do something. On a day that I could easily have taken off of working out I was able to get my butt off the floor and out IN the sun.

While I felt like a turtle and my time confirms it, today I squeezed out a little over a 20 mile run. While I have A LONG WAY TO GO, I am thankful I was able to run this far. 6 months ago I was laying on the couch on my side with stitches in my back and drugged so rolling over didn't hurt. I was doubting I could ever run again.

Even weeks after surgery I could barely walk around the block. Thoughts of selling my new bike and never being able to train, let alone race absolutely consumed me. Racing in Kona is my absolute dream.

I thank all my doctors, family and friends and sponsors for standing by me. Today, I thank Jayne for riding her Mt. bike for just shy of 3 hours, listening to my training and life babble.

Hopefully there is way more training to come.

30 miles finally

This week has been an up and down week.

The low light was: A horrible Wednesday mid-day swim session after a long sleepless night.

The highlights were: A 16mi run, teaching a tough spinning class (preceded and followed by a run brick), an 11mi run with one of my athletes, who is doing fantastic so far this year.

I look forward to hopefully gaining more strength and having a good year in 2009.

Rest week

This week was a rest week, partially needed, partially planned. Next week I plan to ramp up one more time before the first easy race of the season.

Tomorrow morning I have a longer run planned and hope to pick up my swim workouts again starting Monday. Since I may miss a week during my upcoming business trip, I'd like to get a solid two weeks on distance swimming in.

Hope everyone has a good week and take care,

Bones

2009 Sponsors

I wanted to make a quick sponsorship announcement for 2009. Thank you so much to DeSoto, Brooks, Rudy Project and Trisports.com for sponsoring me for 2009!

I still have a couple weeks left to sign up for the Kona lottery (again) and fully intend on doing so.

After a long winter I have come to realize that I have to start over. There was just no way I could have come back fron surgery as strong as I dreamed of and be pain free. I have to live up to realistic expectations and approve of me before I can live up to what everyone else expects or expected. I will continue to regain strength and fight through this so I can do the one thing that I truly love!

Up and down and all around

The end of 2008 was not all I had hoped for. There were a few weeks where I really felt I was getting better and had serious hope that "pain free" would be in my vocabulary.... and very soon at that. Unfortunately, it has not been an easy road. Maybe that will make it that much sweeter in the end, but right now, it is just rotten.

I've been swimming 3 days a week and teaching spinning at the MAC. We've also been adding a second ride on Thursday morning at 5:00am. Most of my indoor training has been with Jayne and Jodie and have also added some trainer rides at home. I really really look forward to some outdoor sessions.

It is about time where athletes and I will be meeting to start talking about race schedules for 2009. This way I can get a good idea on how to periodize for eash individual athlete.

Happy New Year!!!!!
